Log Cabin & Early Pioneer Life
As you walk down the “outdoor” area and through the doorway, imagine yourself living in this 1850s log cabin. The entire family lived in one room which served as a kitchen, dining room, living room, and parents’ bedroom. The children would have slept in the upstairs loft. The fireplace was the heart of the home, providing heat, light, and cooking facilities.
Local History Collection
Other artifacts at the Floyd County Museum range from items that pre-date Floyd County’s existence to items from the twenty-first century. The collection primarily focuses on the period between 1850 and 2000. The collection includes household, agricultural, professional, trades, leisure, transportation, decorative arts, textiles, folk art, and military materials. We also store books, county organization records, newspaper clippings, and more!
